Me myself & I
1.
Hello! I'm Phill, 26 years old, a just finished school a few months ago and now go by Dr. Phill. I am a pharmacist at a home infusion specialty pharmacy. But that is where I am now. In oder to get to know me, let me start a few years back when i was still in undergrad.
Here is a picture of my graduation (May 2017) with Dad step Mom and Sister
I went to the University of Central Florida where I studied biotechnology and had a business minor. While I was there it wasn't all just studying and going to class. I was very involved with my fraternity and did quite a bit of partying. It never interfered with my studies as I was the "smart" one of my friend group. Unofficially everyone started calling me Dr. Phill. So I knew i had to keep going to school in order to make this title legitimate. Upon graduating I decided to go to Pharmacy school to become a pharmacist. Here is where i cracked down on my studies and become the professional i am today.
Volunteering at a health care event
One of my favorite things to do is cook, I love to have people over for dinner parties or BBQs, anything that revolves around food and drinks. This could be from my Italian upbringing where everyone congregates in the kitchen at family get togethers eating drinking and talking loudly. Recently since all of my friends have entered the work force is has been difficult to set them up. That is one thing i miss from school, all of my friends being on the same schedule as I. One thing i would like to do more often is a pig roast. its all al day BBQ event where i cook a whole pig and the smells go on for miles. What this side of me shows is that I like to make people happy. Food is something we all need, and when you eat excellent food it makes you happy.

Currently I live back at home with my parents and younger sister. After Pharmacy school my lease was up and was not sure where i would get a full time job so i came back here until everything is ironed out. We have an great dynamic here, i get along very well with my step mom and we love to watch college sports together. My younger sister (17) and I like to hangout and get ice cream, and i give her advice on applying to colleges and boys, and anything else a high schooler would want help on. My Dad and I are like the same, people always refer to me as his clone, i look like him and act like him. Which is really good sometimes but we also clash on things. My role here is the chef, I'm living here for free so i try to prepare dinner for everyone and we have a family sit down dinner almost every night of the week. After dinner my step mom cleans up and we all watch tv, sometimes together, sometimes in our own rooms.
This is my step mom and sister at my graduation Being back here also puts me in the group of neighbors on our col-de-sac. In this group Im the neighborhood doctor. they call me up all the time for questions on their medication. Also they enjoy hanging out with me because i am a young single guy with great stories they like to live vicariously through. So when on any given day after 6:00pm you can find us drinking beer out on the drive way talking.
I love my roles here. Cooking is one of my favorite things to do AND everyone comes to me, the youngest guy on the block, with all of their medical questions because they see me as the smartest person they know. It means a lot be be appreciated and respected, I was once a little kid on my training wheels learning to ride a bike in the vary streets i now drink beer and give medication counseling.

This Image is where i am at right now. I am a recent grad with so many job possibilities. I am stuck in a pickle in a way, I want to jump into a full time career with a company but there are so many different types of jobs in the pharmacy industry i dont want to make the wrong choice. So i took a part time job, in a way its my stepping stone where i can weigh all the possibilities of each the the following doors before committing to one. Because i fear once i walk into a door it may lock behind me leaving me stuck in a job i might not like for the rest of my life.

In 5-10 years I hope to be making lots of money in the pharmacy business. The main door i want to open is one that leads me into owning my own pharmacy. I want to be the boss, I want to be the one that builds up an operation from the ground up. I want to be the one to lead, and then once things are set in place i want to backfill with a new pharmacist to run the operation while i collect residual income on the store. I know its a big goal and its ambitious but the strategic moves I am making now will hopefully lead me to be a part owner and manager of a store within a year and then after another 5 be able to open another store and so on and so forth until i have a created a large enough footprint where i no longer need to work. this Image shows me exchanging medications for cash, there is a lot of money to be made, not only is it great to help people but helping yourself is its own reward.
The difference from image one to image two is commitment. A difficult choice lies in my path and if i can make the right moves and stick with it i can turn an open door into an empire. its important that i start moving faster than i am now, I cannot stay living with my parents and hope to grow and mature into the CEO I want to become in the next few years. In a way I am scared to fail and make the wrong choice, but there is a voice telling me that the fact is there is no wrong or right choice, whatever i decide on will be the best thing and i will make it work, one way or another.

Food/alcohol, is social and brings people together to celebrate things. this cheers looks like a toast to good things to come. my friends and I will often do something that looks like this when we get together for something good.
this is a big family having dinner together. each night my family has dinner together and on the holidays we get the extended family involved. this represents the family aspect that food brings.
meal prep. it is important to plan out what you are going to eat ahead of time or else poor food choices will be made or no food choice. if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. I dont always meal pep a whole week at a time but i do try to make a schedule of what i am going to eat.
Best friends sharing food. I dont share my food with just anyone. Food is a bond that can keep people close.
The obese man. a symbol of over indulgence. Its common now in america to over indulge everything. especially food! now instead of cutting back on food, this guy has wheels to carry his belly. a symbolic way to justify his lifestyle, instead of changing it to walk normal.
DATE NIGHT! Where else do you take a girl out on a first date. its a total cliché but i find that most of my dates either start or end with food together.
Social media. everytime we cook or go out we take a picture and post it. Maybe its to show off your accomplishments or show others of your exotic taste. either way taking pictures of food in now a very important part of our lives. i like to post my dinners after i cook for hours.
eating our emotions. This can be conscious or subconsciously, but we all find ourselves doing it. bad food makes me FEEL happy, i know its had but i guess its better than doing drugs.

Just stating the facts. food makes you feel good and not illegal
My current relationship with food:
I use food as a tool, whether i want to bring people together, celebrate an accomplishment, or put me into a better mood, food has the power to do it all.
This relationship is unique i think. Most people want to deny its power over them or completely succumb to it and have no will power to eat healthy. But I differ, I am aware that food has a dynamic pressure on people and try to use it to my advantage. I use it to get people to like me, or respect me by treating them to a good meal. This shows that I have a long term plan, nothing i do is by chance, i make a conscious choice every time i do something
My first day at work at my new job i brought donuts in, i know i had to earn everyones respect and being their new boss would not go over well if they did not like me. I used food a peace offering to build a working relationship on a positive note.
When i want to hangout with friends i just start cooking and invite people over, word gets around faster when they know the food will be there for sure. the old saying "if you build it, they will come" is my motto when hosting a party.

My definition of healthy is a balance, always in moderation. Over doing anything is bad, too much exercise can lead to injury, too few calories can lead to nutritional deficiencies, too many sweets can lead to obesity. everything must be a balance, you need to eat in healthy portions, not the "american" bigger is better portions. Giant sodas need to be eliminated, actually all soda, its just sugar water that we can do without.
Each of my meals i try to have a protein, a vegetable and a small carbohydrate portion. its this balance that keeps my satisfied and healthy. While i know i am not super star with a six pack, i am happy, not obese, and i have no health problems.
During the day i encounter so many oportunites to eat unhealthy. at work there is always cake or donuts, at home my family has bowls of candy every where (not just for halloween). I have to make a strong effort not to break down and eat these fatty foods that will ruin my diet. i do have dessert sometimes, but it is not a habit. that is the important thing with food. forming habits, if you eat healthy the majority of the time you will be a healthy person, but once you form the habit of fast food and dessert everyday you start to go down a slippery slope that is hard to get off of.

Welcome Brandon. My name is Kim, and I'll be corresponding with you throughout this blogging assignment. I'll post after each blog, so be sure to check back to see if there's any follow-up. You can respond here in the comments section as well.
ReplyDeleteFantastic job on your first job. I appreciate the attention to detail and thoroughness. I would like you to clarify one thing - how would you describe your family's dynamic?
My family has gone through a lot of changes in the time frame of when I lived there last to now. (8 years) My mom passed in 2012 after 2 lung transplants, my dad remarried my step mom, Patti, and she has a daughter from her previous marriage, Bianca. The four of us my dad, Patti, and Bianca all live together now. It is actually a very nuclear family, we have a dog and live in the suburbs. My dad works most of the day, he owns a plumbing company, my younger sister goes to school, and my step mom runs errands. We get along very well and like going out together, and doing things as a family.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brandon. Sorry to hear about your mom..
ReplyDeleteMy name is Phill by the way lol
